8 Things That Suck About the iPad

I read the following quick review on the iPad and I thought it captured my thoughts exactly. I think the iPad looks really cool and wouldn’t mind it one bit if I was given one, but I’m not sure I would use it much. Here’s why:
Missional Communities

Missional Communities in the Suburbs & Cities A friend of mine referred me to Jonathon Dodson’s message on Missional Communities. I listened to it today and he had some great philosophical and practical insights into building thriving Gospel centered communities. Not a small group, not a sunday school class…a whole different way of enjoying people [...]
Merciful Contentment
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. ~ 2 Cor. 9:8 Jennifer and I are working through some pretty difficult issues with a couple of our sons. We are at a crossroads of sorts [...]
An Old Pastor’s Wisdom

I love and greatly value wisdom from older Saints. I love to see an older Saint who has walked a long time with Jesus and continues to do so with great joy and anticipation. There have been several of them in my life and I have always deeply valued what they had to share. Here [...]
Shirkers and Slackers Spells Me

I’m working through this Bible reading plan that was posted over at the Gospel Coalition’s site. My Twitter friend Rae Whitlock pointed it out. It looks like a good plan for my scattered and splattered self. If you don’t have a plan, or don’t normally read through the Bible – this may be a helpful [...]
A Quiet Moment

Dec. 14th, that was my last post here. Since then life has been a whirlwind. My time has been filled with processing Ethiopian pictures for GGI, trying to keep a thousand fingers on the ordained chaos of what God is doing at New City, traveling to see family, dealing with mentally unstable kids, getting rid [...]
2009: The Year in Tech
For those of you who want a quick little 2009 Tech recap this is for you. Most interesting for me was Chrome being picked as the web browser of the year. I haven’t looked at it much, but now I just may. It will take a lot for this Mac/PC user to walk away from [...]
Top Ten Things to do While Waiting on the Police to File a Report
10. Brush your teeth. No one wants to talk to you with coffee covering up morning breath. 9. Get the bikes, scooters, skateboard and chewed up pizza box out of the front yard. Good grief man, you look like a redneck. 8. Wipe up breakfast. Chocolate donuts were a great idea, but now they are [...]
AMBITION: To Preach The Gospel Where Christ Is Not Known

The theme of the recent Acts 29 Boot Camp in Louisville, Kentucky, hosted by Sojourn Community Church, was ambition. Simply knowing how to plant and lead a church is not enough. Knowledge must come hand-in-hand with God-given ambition.
The Experiment

First I want to say Thank You all for praying for Noah and our family. We have had an incredible 2+ year ride with our son and it appears to continue. As most of you know we had an appointment last night with a psychiatric doctor.
A How To and a How Not To Say: Thank You Pastor!
I was walking around downtown today looking for Noah. I felt my sugar getting low so I stopped into the Market City Grill for lunch. I sat by the window in case I happened to see Noah walk by.
The Open Road

I was told last night to not purchase any gifts for Christmas if they were given in love. I was told that love is not needed and if gifts are a reflection of love that I could keep them. I was also told that all of ‘my’ family could also save their gifts if they [...]
Snackage
I picked up the boys from wrestling yesterday at 5pm. Noah: Dad, did you bring us any snacks? Dad: Sorry bud, I didn’t even think about it. Noah: What kind of Father are you? Dad: Uh, well, I guess I just suck. <a minute passes and I hear crunching from the back seat> Dad: Are [...]
Adoption: A Community That Has Become an Empty, Irritating Noise
Mosquitoes. I forgot about the mosquitoes. I think it must get cold enough in Spokane to sufficiently kill the mosquito population…not the case in Georgia. Jennifer and I love to sit on the front porch and talk. But those mosquitoes just won’t quit. I saw one drinking the melted wax out of one of those [...]
Adoption: A Community Not Worth Joining

I have a hobby. I like to play online video games. A game that I play has been around for a couple of years and interest in the game has waned. So the developers came up with a new strategy. They would make it free to play instead of $15 a month. If you wanted [...]
Political Professionalism at it’s Best!
Uh…wow. I don’t have to say much here – the video says it all. But I must say two things: 1. And you people voted for her?? 2. If I was a criminal I know where I would be hitting! And may God bless you all…
Preach the Word – Don’t be Distracted by Starving Kids
I once heard someone say that adoption and orphan care should not be one of the primary ministries of the church. I’m not sure what Bible they were reading, but it sounds like a bunch of BS to me….I’m just saying…
I’m Slowly Losing My Mind
Dad – What are you thinking? Son – I’m not thinking anything. Dad – You were in the middle of saying something, so what was it? Son – I don’t know what you are talking about… Dad – You do know what I’m talking about and now you are lying about it. Son – I’m [...]
