I was just sitting at my computer catching up on Facebook and Tweets when I saw that there is going to be a 5k Run in 4 weeks here in Macon, Midnight Madness.

Patrick:  I wonder if I can do that?
Jennifer: I don’t see why not?
Patrick: But it’s in 4 weeks…a 5k in four weeks?
Jennifer: You can do that.
Emma: Dad, I’m a little concerned right now.
Patrick: Why?
Emma: Because I’ve never heard you say “I can’t do anything”.
Patrick: Well, some things I can’t do.
Emma: Stop saying that, it seriously is freaking me out.

This conversation was funny because we just had my Elder Assessment where we discussed one of my weaknesses being that I take on anything.  I don’t say no to much and feel like I can do anything.  Even my daughter notices my weakness…Sigh.

I know, I know. I haven’t blogged consistently in a very long time. To tell you I have been crazy busy with life would be a laughable understatement. But…I wanted to share this.

Tonight I missed dinner to troubleshoot a Mac/Windows issue (and I’m about to start throwing things), so I was rummaging around the fridge for something to eat. I found a bag of ham. It looked home cooked (probably from my in-laws) so I started to dig right in. With my first I bite I thought, “Hmm, it tastes a little different. She must have tried something new with it”. I was gulping my first bite down as Caleb walked by.

Caleb: Uh, Dad, I don’t think you should be eating that.
Dad: Why? (As I’m shoving another handful into my mouth)
Caleb: Because it’s for Grizwell (our dog)
Dad: Why is it for Grizwell? (At this point I’m swallowing my second mouthful and hoping I was not about to hear what I was about to hear)
Caleb: Meme said that she thought it was old and we should give it to the dog…

So, if I die tonight because we are apparently refrigerating old meat for the dog, it has been a great ride!

I was walking around downtown today looking for Noah.  I felt my sugar getting low so I stopped into the Market City Grill for lunch.  I sat by the window in case I happened to see Noah walk by.  I enjoyed the best Meatloaf Sandwich that I have ever had.  If you have never eaten at Market City – put it on your To Do list.  I was getting ready to leave and someone from New City walked in.

He sat down at my table, told me how much he appreciated me and paid for my lunch.  Not only that, he wanted me to know that he was increasing his giving to New City to insure that I was able to work more for the church.  I was humbled and extremely thankful.  This IS how you say Thank You to a pastor.

On my way out of town I passed by another person who wanted to say Thank You.  She was drunk and disheveled, and walked straight towards me.  As she was getting closer she kept saying Thank You Pastor for all that you are doing for me.  She reached up like she was going to hug me so I hugged her back.  But her other hand went straight to my crotch and squeezed.  “WHOAH There!  Easy now!”  She died laughing and continued her stumbled walk down the sidewalk.  The one day I didn’t wear my cup…This IS NOT how to say ‘Thank You’ to a pastor.

I picked up the boys from wrestling yesterday at 5pm.

Noah: Dad, did you bring us any snacks?
Dad: Sorry bud, I didn’t even think about it.
Noah: What kind of Father are you?
Dad:  Uh, well, I guess I just suck.
<a minute passes and I hear crunching from the back seat>
Dad: Are you eating chips? <incredulously>
Noah: <laughing>  Yeah, I was just testing you.  It’s ok, we still love you, but tomorrow you should bring snacks.
Dad:  I’m tempted to pull this truck over and kick your little narrow butt.
<Insert everyone laughing>

Tonight we had my parents come down and enjoy a First Friday with us. They loved it and stayed with us the entire time. At one point in the evening some bikers road up and were sitting between the cafe and The Rookery. My Dad is a big Harley guy, so he wandered over and was checking the ‘Honda’ bikes out. He struck up a conversation with the biker. Noticing an attractive lady near the bike he asked, “Is that your woman?” The biker smiled and pointed to the guy next to him, “No, he is”. My Dad said, ‘Oh…ok’.

We all had a good laugh.

Student 1: That white man your daddy?
Student 2: Fool, how’s a white man s’posed be my daddy?
Student 1: Hell if I know but they ain’t no mo white boys in the gym.
Student 2: Maybe he’s lost…

I get out of the truck and walk into the gym to find Josiah.

Patrick: How you fella’s doin?
Both Students: Good
Patrick: Anymore boys in the gym?
Student 1:  Uhhhh, maybe?
Patrick: Thanks.

Finding Josiah, we then walk back to the truck.

Student 1: Damn…..
Student 2: Uh-huh….

We just smiled…
