The Experiment

noahFirst I want to say Thank You all for praying for Noah and our family.  We have had an incredible 2+ year ride with our son and it appears to continue.  As most of you know we had an appointment last night with a psychiatric doctor.  By and large it was a very good first meeting.  This new doctor seems to really know how to draw Noah out.  She got him to agree to a 2 month Experiment of medication and counseling.  She is looking at a diagnosis of Bipolar and Reactive Detachment Disorder.  This was the diagnosis that we were expecting.  At the end of that 2 months we will reevaluate.

If he is still unable to control himself and still insistent on moving out of our family then we will begin looking at some type of group home for him.  While he is insistent on us disrupting him I struggle with that on various levels, but at the same time I’m not opposed to it.  Every day continues to be a battle.  The silent treatment, the angry looks, the refusal to help out around the house and the list goes on.  To say that we are exhausted would be an understatement.  Please continue to pray.

I know this must be awfully hard for you guys but it sounds like you found the right doctor this time. At least you will know that you have done everything you could do. I pray for you guys and for Noah. He has tugged my heart strings for reasons I do not know.

So glad to hear you had a good meeting with the doctor. I’m praying for strength and patience and love and the understanding, and the discernment to know how to respond to him. I pray you can thank God, like Matt Chandler did, that He has counted you worthy to give Him glory through this very difficult time. Love you guys!!

  3. Jennifer and Matt says:

As part of your family, we love you.Our son struggles with Bi polar disorder and the medication is very helpful. We are very thrilled with our therapist as well. Have faith. The therapist is very well trained and can help. As you also know it is no quick trip. You remind us when we are down, Joining with Christ and taking up his cross is not easy nor did he promise us it would be. I have to tell you that God is great and that we could not work with our son without your faith and love and we will continue to help, pray, cry and laugh with you as our “blues brothers” sons grow.

I’m continuing to pray for your dear family!

You may know that Bill and Susan G have had their daughter Grace in residential treatment in Montana for two months and they are planning on her returning home this week. The time was to make sure her medication had time to stablize and for the therapist to teach Grace some coping skills. It was also truly a blessing for Bill and Susan because of each of their major health problems. They were able to regularly video conference with the therapist, which was very helpful. Bill also mentioned the title of a very helpful book, which you may want to read. It is called The Explosive Child http://www.amazon.com/Explosive-Child-Understanding-Frustrated-Chronically/dp/0060931027.

I pray that as you work with this new psychaiatrist, God will soften Noah’s heart towards you and he will begin to understand deep in his soul how much he is loved by God and by you and Jennifer.
